He grew up in Oakland, California with his two brothers, Adelbert "Buz" and Joel. He worked as the CFO for a number of bay area pharmaceutical companies. Timm was the loving father of Brett and Nicholas Carpenter of Moraga and Kathryn, Kayla, Kelsey Carpenter of Novato. And he was also a devoted Grandfather to Lander, Madeline, and Blake Carpenter of Moraga,

Timm was known as a caring and supportive father, an extremely hard worker, a good friend and a fun guy. He was life long owner of many sports cars, including Jaguars and Corvettes, and he had a passion for his boat, Silver Cloud. He loved sailing on the bay with the wind in his face while entertaining friends and family. He was also known for his love of sweets, especially See's chocolates, and his dislike of sand. He was a very special man, gone way too soon. But there is comfort in knowing that he is sailing the heavens in peace.
