Tom Kamifuji Obituary

Tom (Kam) Kamifuji

Tom (Kam) Kamifuji was born in Palms, California on August 29, 1922. He passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2015 surrounded by family. He spent his childhood years in Venice, California and was interred during World War II in Santa Anita, California and later to Rohrer Arkansas. He served in the army at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and was discharged in 1946.

A graduate of Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, he relocated to New York City to join the staff of McCann-Erickson Advertising in 1950. In the same year he married Momo (nee) Kamiura. He returned to California to establish his studio in San Francisco, and later Palo Alto, and moved to San Mateo to raise his family of three children.

Tom was able to pursue his love of golf for many years until his diagnosis of Alzheimer. He participated in the Stanford Alzheimer study to gain a better understanding of the condition, and to aid in future research developments.

He is survived by wife Momo of 64 years; children Cheryl, spouse Nicholas Baker; Stephen, spouse Cecelia Moreno; Kristin, spouse Michael Cuneo; siblings Mrs. Margaret Takeda; Mrs. Harumi Ralph.

Memorial service will be held at: Sturge Presbyterian Church, 25 S. Humboldt Street, San Mateo, California 94401 on Saturday April 18, 2015, 1:00pm, (650) 344-6803
