Toshihito Kodama Obituary

Toshihito Kodama was born March 16, 1925, in Tokyo, Japan to Yoshifumi Kodama and Yukie Muramatsu. Mr. Kodama arrived in San Francisco in 1953 and earned a degree in accounting from San Francisco State University.

He got a job as a Japanese Language Instructor for the Department of the Army and was subsequently awarded a green card which allowed him to bring his wife, Sawako, and young son, Boku, to America. His daughter, Katherine, was born thereafter.

Mr. Kodama began a successful career in the insurance business and worked for John Hancock Life Insurance for 41 years.

After being introduced to the Church of Perfect Liberty by Sawako, Mr. Kodama was a devoted member until his passing. He was also active in the Nichiren Hokke Buddhist Church of America.

Mr. Kodama is survived by his adoring wife, Molly Gleason-Kodama, whom he married in 2011; his sister, Yoshiko Hanada of Yokohama, Japan; his children, Katherine (Mick) Hisako and Boku (Donna) Yoshitada; his grandchildren, Marcus, Erin (Kyle), Justin (Grace), Toby (Shelly) and "Chippy"; his great grandchildren Jackson and Zoe; grand niece Toshimi Murakami (Peter) of Los Angeles; and great grand niece, Kaiya. He was great friends with Katherine's first husband, Dr. Vernon Fong (Wanda), father of Toby and Chippy. Mr. Kodama was predeceased by his first wife, Sawako, in 2005.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 31st, at 1:00pm at Halsted N. Gray-Carew & English, 1123 Sutter Street, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Mr. Kodama's name.
