Wendy Baker Obituary

Wendy Baker
10/05/1948 - 08/17/2024
It is with heavy heartbreak we share that Wendy Baker passed away peacefully from a brief battle with Leukemia at the age of 75 in her Fairfax home, which she shared with her husband of 23 years, Rich Rushton. In addition to Rich, Wendy is survived by her brother, Fred, her daughter, Laura Borges, her son-in-law Jeff and her Grandsons, Jake and Riley.
Wendy Baker grew up Wendy Lee Wreden, a third generation San Franciscan, living in the Sunset District. Wendy graduated with honors from UC Berkeley, BA Landscape Architecture as well as a Master's from Harvard but began her social impact at GGNRA bringing the first ever urban park to the nation.
She lived her dream of moving to Fairfax shortly after, where there she earned an appointment to the Planning Commission, Citizens for Downtown Improvement Committee, Exec. Dir Chamber of Commerce, Director of Sustainability Fairfax and also served as Fairfax Council Member and then Mayor of Fairfax ('86-90).
Her passion for creativity took her to the American Film Institute in LA assisting on films such as Reservoir Dogs and when she returned to Fairfax she continued her creativity in the arts with oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels at the Marin Society of Artists and participating in Marin Open Studios.
Wendy's friends and family marveled at her energy, zest for life and the guts to live it large, but most of all, appreciated the way she could bring people together to create, ideate and celebrate life.
A Celebration of Wendy's Life will be held at Deer Park Villa on September 30th.

Wendy leaves a big open space which she used to fill with her generous spirit, interest and zest for life, and as a true and always encouraging friend. I will miss her, and remember her, for the unique, giving and positive comrade that she was.
