Lani Robert Lain

1947 - 2022

August 29, 1947 - July 11, 2022 Lani Lain was born on August 29, 1947, in Pasadena, CA, and passed away on July 11, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend. Lani loved the outdoors and spent much of his life there with his family, hiking, camping, playing softball, coaching his kids' teams, off-roading, working on cars, growing blackberries, towing floats to and from the Rose Parade, pointing out constellations, cooking in Dutch ovens, and enjoying a cup of coffee out on the back porch with Nancy, his wife of 47 years. He had a knack for any sport he played, a calming demeanor, a level-headed approach to things, and a dry sense of humor. He enjoyed telling funny family stories, dug deeply into family genealogy, and was proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force. He had an interest in how things worked and put that to good use in his decades-long career as a mechanical engineer and as the fixer of all things around the house. Lani is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Jeff, Kelly, Kate, and Peter; and his grandsons Ryan, Robert, Trevor, and Elijah. He also leaves behind his siblings and their families: David Lain, Kathy Ralston, and Linda Egebjerg, his brother-in-law Mel Summers, and many nieces and nephews. Lani was pre-deceased by his parents Charles David Lain and Adella (Bette) Baker, his step-mother Marjorie Lain, and his sisters Wendy Lain and Shari Ann Summers. The family is planning a celebration of Lani's life.
