Daron Williams Obituary

Williams, Daron James

Daron James Williams, 31, Foster City, CA, beloved husband and best friend of Feifei (Zhao) Williams, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and parents on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center.

Daron was born in Sheboygan, WI on May 15, 1982. He grew up in Plymouth, WI and graduated from Plymouth High School in 2001, where he was a star athlete and a talented saxophone player. Daron attended the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse (UW-L), where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2006, with majors in Biology and Spanish, minor in Chemistry. Additionally, he was honored with the Murphy Award for Academic Excellence for being the most outstanding graduating student. Daron then went on to Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he received his Medical Doctor degree in 2010 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. He also conducted substantial research in the areas of breast and prostate cancer, which culminated in a number of scientific publications. Following medical school, Daron started Internal Medicine Residency training at UCSF Medical Center, with the hopes of becoming a Rheumatologist.

Daron's sweet and tender smile lit up the room wherever he went and brought warmth into everyone's hearts. His serene and friendly presence brought a sense of peaceful harmony to each person he encountered. Filled with intelligence and humanism, Daron dedicated his life to helping others. He dreamed of making his patients better, performing cutting edge scientific research, and educating the next generation of physicians. Throughout his time on Earth, Daron was filled with kindness and compassion for all who crossed paths with him. He was genuinely interested in listening to others, and had the amazing ability to make each person feel special. After the diagnosis of leukemia in 2011, Daron bravely fought this horrible disease with incredible strength, courage, grace, and perseverance. Despite the myriad of challenges he faced on a daily basis, he remained resilient and lived each day to its fullest.

Daron was actively engaged in sports, including basketball, soccer, tennis, ping pong, running, and hiking. He was an excellent musician who touched his audience with his saxophone solos. Daron was an avid reader and was passionate about learning new things. He traveled all over the world and embraced each new culture with open arms. Daron loved spending quality time with his wife; they enjoyed cooking, watching movies, eating delectable foods, and going on adventures. He maintained close ties with his family and friends, and gifted all who knew him with his remarkable ability to communicate his thoughts and ideas.

Daron is survived by his adoring wife Feifei. They were married on March 24, 2012 in Houston, TX.

Daron is also survived by his parents, Anita Kay Williams and Byron Williams; his siblings, Ann Chen and her husband Victor Chen, Kevin Williams, and Colin Williams; his grandparents, Minerva Baker and Warren Williams; his niece and nephews, Erik, Elaina, Carson, and Kyle Chen; and the rest of his family and friends.

Daron is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne L Baker and Katherine Williams.

Daron was and still is the most gifted natural communicator I've met anywhere at any level of clinical medicine. Daron inspired us to change our hospital care model at Emory so more patients could receive the same active listening that they deserve and that Daron gave them so effortlessly. He lives on in that Emory care model and wherever this care model thrives, Daron's influence is there.
