Frederic "Fritz" G. Vater
Greenbush - Frederic "Fritz" G. Vater, 86, of the town of Greenbush passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.
Fritz was born at home in Plymouth on December 23, 1934 a son to the late George and Lucille (Mehre) Vater. He attended Victor School, St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1952. Fritz served stateside in the 1st Division, 69th Armor of the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959. He held the rank of Specialist 4th Class at the time of his discharge. On September 17, 1960 he was united in marriage to Donna J. Leon at St. Fridolin Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2018. Fritz was employed by Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. In retirement he had a unique hobby of making replicas of churches from stone which he selected and cut.
Fritz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth and for 40 years golfed with the Thursday Night Golf League at Crystal Lake Golf Course
Fritz is survived by his three sons, Michael (Pat) Vater of Greenbush, Allen (Melissa) Vater of Alpharetta, Georgia and Gerald (Tami) Vater of Glenbeulah; seven grandchildren, Katie (Adam Fisher) Vater of Milwaukee, Daniel Vater of Milwaukee, David (Anne) Vater of Savannah, Georgia, Kimberly Vater and Jonathan Vater both of Atlanta, Georgia, Jaclyn Vater of Plymouth and Tyler Vater (fiance, Ashley Curtis) of Glenbeulah and two great grandsons, Rhett and Colton Vater. Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Vater and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Connie Leon.
A funeral service for Fritz will be held 11 AM, Thursday, April 15, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Nathan Meador, pastor, as officiant. Burial will follow in the Greenbush Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends may gather at the church, 222 Stafford St., Plymouth on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until time of service at 11 AM. Masks and social distancing will be required.
