You were too young to go. I hope the family lets me know if there is anything I can do to be of help. I served many years in the military with Derek. We were deployed in 2009-2010 to Iraq in the same Task Force. Derek's dad worked with my husband in the community. I would see Derek at company picnics at the Indianapolis Zoo even when we weren't in the military together. He was just a bit older than my oldest son. I remember when Derek turned 19. I remember when he became a Chief. He always talked about his family to me. I posted a picture on Facebook for the family of the last annual training I was at with him where we got stuck out in the rain.
