Carl Dedmon Obituary

SHELBY – Talmadge Carl Dedmon, 86, passed away March 21, 2015, at the Hospice House in Kings Mountain. Born Nov. 2, 1928, he was the son of the late F.S. Dedmon and Jennie Alexander Dedmon.
A graduate of Waco High School and Mars Hill College; he was formerly employed with Dedmon's Livestock Yard, a family business. He was later the founder and president of Dedmon's Harvestore Systems, Piedmont Harvestore Systems, N/S Carolina Storage and RDJY Corporation. Working was his passion and he was actively involved in his businesses until his health no longer allowed it. He represented storage solutions in Agricultural, Municipal and Industrial systems in North and South Carolina for 52 years.
One of the founders and original directors of Carolina State Bank of Shelby, he was later a director of First Charter of Concord (Fifth Third Bank).
He was proud to have a part in naming the Red Cross Building on Fallston Road to honor the memory of his parents, F.S. and Jennie Dedmon.
Always interested in Cleveland County and education, he was a benefactor of the Center for Cleveland County Schools Early College, as well as the Dover YMCA. He recently chose to honor his wife in the naming of the future women's shelter. He enjoyed baseball and NASCAR, took great pleasure in going to Ocean Isle Beach, as well as spring training in Florida and horseshows in Tennessee. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby, and the Cal Robertson Bible Class.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Bill Dedmon and Gene Dedmon; and brother-in-law, Lowell Shive.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Spangler Dedmon. They planned to celebrate their 65th anniversary in April. Survivors include his daughter, June Dedmon Yarboro and husband, Ed; son, Richard Dedmon and wife, Jan, all of Shelby. He was known by "PaPaw " to his grandchildren: Will Dedmon and wife, Leigh Ervin and Molly Dedmon of Charlotte; Bonnie Yarboro and Stephanie Yarboro of Raleigh; and his great-grandson, Pless Dedmon of Charlotte. In addition, his sisters, Clara Lee Dedmon Shive of Greenville, S.C. and Dr. Rachel Dedmon of Pawley's Island, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Betty Dedmon and Joan Dedmon of Shelby; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Rose Hill Memorial Park, and a celebration of life service at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 24, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Tony Tench and Dr. Robert Canoy conducting the service. The family will receive friends after the service in the Dover activities building.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Shelby, 120 N. Lafayette St., or to the local Red Cross, 1333 Fallston Rd., Shelby.
The family appreciates the compassionate care of the Hospice and Carolina HealthCare System-Cleveland staff.
