Uncle Dayle will be greatly missed. I remember him being the absolute most fun when I was a kid. Once, when we were out 4-wheeling, his jeep got stuck kind of close to the edge of a steep slope. He had us kids jump out of the front, where we were staring into the abyss with some concern, to become 'ballast' on the back of the jeep... memorably cool. He was always supportive and kind, and had a dry sense of humor that has always made me smile.

Dayle lived a good life with a family that loved him and he loved. He was a good brother, always calling on birthdays and always a warm smile and hug when you saw him. He was a hard worker, an engineer, a pilot, a sailor, a skier, a hiker, a mountaineer, who drove his jeep in places many thought impossible and always had time for a dip in Lake MI when he was there. He was a gentle soul who loved life. He will be missed.

I will miss Dayle even if in his case hair was a singular noun. He was my brother and dear friend from the time we were tiny children and he was the person I could count on when the chips were really down. As a person he wasnt all sweetness and light. I remember one-time skiing Jean, Darren, Dayle and I when a snowboarder zipped fast over the top of a picnic table we were resting on/near. Dayle positioned himself before the second snowboarder could do the same, grabbed the kid (Dayles control over his skis and his strength was amazing), cussed him out, and threatened to haul him down to Ski Patrol if he didnt straighten out. We were all safe from them after that. When we were kids, Dayle noticed that when the oldest four were out playing in the summer, it was always me (the one girl) Mom called me in to go get her a can of tomatoes. Dayle would say, Poor you! in an empathetic way to acknowledge the life of a female wasnt as privileged as that of the sons. So it goes. That was the 1950s.
I remember him as kind but strong, fun and extremely hard working, big early but small later, intolerant of interruptions, and single minded when he had a particular goal. He was an engineer to his bones and a life-long learner. He will be sorely missed by all of us and by me especially. May he rest in peace. I count his life as highly successful with a productive 52-year marriage that produced two wonderful children who succeeded in finding excellent mates.
I love you and miss you, bro!
