Anita Blaufuss Obituary

Anita Lee Blaufuss

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services celebrating the life of Anita Lee Blaufuss, 74, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery, Stoner Avenue. Officiating will be Rabbi Jana DeBenedetti.

Anita was born November 27, 1934 in Carroll, IA and passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Grace Home. She was a member of B'Nai Zion Congregation, a member of its Board and B'Nai Zion Sisterhood. Anita was a loving and active wife of a military officer. She served as President of the Officer Wives' Club and was an active volunteer for Base Family Services during the Linebacker Operation. She was past President of the Bossier City Optimist Club and past Governor of the Louisiana District Optimist. She served on the Board of Providence House, Gingerbread House and Community Interfaith Alliance. Anita spent many hours volunteering for the Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross and was a member of its Board. She had a strong love of art and was a past manager of Simmers Art Gallery. Anita was very active in the community, but her greatest passion was her family. Family gatherings and holidays, especially making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren, were very special to Anita.

Her parents, Walter and Darlene Cozzens, preceded Anita in death. Left to cherish beautiful memories are her husband of 53 years, Philipp Blaufuss of Shreveport, LA; daughters, Lee Ann Blaufuss of Shreveport, LA and Sheryl Marlowe and husband, Richard of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Adam, Jeremy and Matthew Simpson; and great grandchildren, Skyler Christian and Kylie, Peyton, Alec, Garrett and Aurora Bella Simpson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Anita Blaufuss Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 9411, Bossier City, LA 71171, Grace Home, Providence House, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra or charity of choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home

Anita touched many lives through her kindness and compassion for others. It is through her work and dedication to others that her spirit continues to live with all that knew her. It was my pleasure and honor to have known Anita and call her my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Phil and Lee Ann, From EWI to Optimist Club to Bingo Night, we have had some fun times. She and Donna kept EWI rolling with their "White Elephant" find and of course Anita kept the Bingo Nights at Optimist Club cooled off with her fans -- she was always fanning because of her hot flashes. Oh my, I didn't realize she was ill. I didn't find out in time to come over for her service. I am so sorry, not only for your loss, but for a loss from all of our lives. She was a really great woman that was thought very highly of as is spoken by the words from her friends herein. I reread her obit several times and then it hit me, even after her conversion, she still made Christmas cookies with her grandkids. She could do it all with finesse and grace! What a loss to us all. I love you all. Kathy

We were so saddened to hear about
the passing of our dear friend, Nita.
She, and the Blaufuss family have been a part of our lives for many years. Even though we are separated by miles, we always stayed in touch and looked forward to our next visit with the Blaufuss family. Nita's contagious laugh and her tremendous zest for life, touched
anyone who knew her. Our sincere
sympathy to Phil, Cheryl and family,
and Lee Ann. We pray that your memories of wife, mother, and grandmother, will be a source of comfort. It broke our hearts not to
be with you today to say goodbye, but our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We'll surely miss our
dear friend.

Love,

Janice Simon Waters

Col. B, LeeAnn, and Sheryl,
I was so shocked to open the paper tonight and see Mrs. B had passed. She had such a positive effect on a young skinny girl trying to find herself way back in the day. She was one of the first women who taught me I could be a parent, spouse, professional, and volunteer, and that I should do it all:) I saw her a couple of years ago at an Optimist event and was reminded then what a positive influence she had on my life. I wish I had taken the time to tell her, but, somehow, I think she knew she influenced that skinny little friend of Sheryl's! All my love and respect to her and her family.

You have my sympathy. I didn't know her personally, had only met her a few times, but I know LeeAnn and her great love for her mother. I know she will be deeply missed by family and her community.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Mrs. Anita Lee Blaufuss a loving mlitary wife who provided dedicate service to her country, her community and her family. To her family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Anita. And to Anita it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank her for her devotion to her husband, her family, the U.S. Air Force and her country. Only a military wife knows the difficulties and great sacrifices associated with rearing a military family that relocated frequently and that often included long separations from the one they loved most and anxious moments of concern for their safety. Anita we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Anita’s family and loved ones.
