Imogene Clark Obituary

Imogene V. Clark

RICHARDSON, TX - Graveside services for Mrs. Imogene V. Clark, 90, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Scott Shaver. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Drive.

Mrs. Clark was born May 19, 1918 to J.W. and Mary Goodwin. She passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 in Richardson, Texas. She was a charter member of Mesha Court Number 63 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America. She worked tirelessly for The Shriners Hospital, giving generously of her time and talents. She sewed clothes, cooked meals, and volunteered at fundraisers. If the Hospital needed something or someone, she was THERE.

Her creative talents were many; she sewed, knitted, crocheted and worked with ceramics. She worked with ceramic molds and fabric creating beautiful China dolls, Bye-lo babies, and other works of art. A lover of dolls, she amassed a sizeable collection of her own over the years.

She also had a unique sense of style; until the early 50s, like most women, she didn't leave the house without her hat and gloves. Even when financial times were difficult, she always managed to look fashionable, making many of her own clothes and also sewing for her two daughters. She always looked her best, getting a weekly manicure and hair appointment her entire life. She encouraged her daughters and granddaughters to do the same, giving each one a hairbrush every Christmas (among many other gifts!).

A child of the Depression, she was frugal, yet always generous. She kept clothes, shoes, household items, and furniture, knowing that someday someone may need them. She and her late husband bought the house next door to their homestead of over 50 years in Cedar Grove, to ensure they had enough storage space. Nicknamed "The Mansion", it resembled an attic filled with treasures. If anyone needed anything, it was probably in the Mansion; finding it, however, could sometimes provide a treasure hunt in itself.

She and her husband DeLay also shared their home away from home, "The Camp", better known as "Two Shoes", on Lake Bistineau, with family and friends. There they celebrated many birthdays and holidays with cookouts, mud-pie making, fishing, boat riding and bird watching. An avid lover of animals, she and DeLay adopted several puppies Sissy, Mopsy, Buffy and Taylor were loved and missed dearly.

She probably wouldn't call herself a feminist, but she made sure her daughters had swimming and dancing lessons, luxuries she was denied being a girl in the early 20s.

She often complimented a friend or acquaintance by calling her a "pretty good old gal." A young granddaughter, not understanding, asked her once, " what's a puny old cow?" The joke stuck. Imogene was truly a "puny old cow". Her granddaughters nicknamed her I-gee and Toot.

Imogene was a wonderfully unique woman, full of wit, wisdom and love. She will be truly missed by all of her family and friends.

During extraordinary times, she achieved extraordinary feats. She worked as a beautician and manicurist and later sold tickets for venues at Shreveport Municipal Auditorium and Civic Center, and also as an administrative assistant for "Holiday In Dixie".

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Edward DeLay Clark; parents, J.W. and Mary Goodwin; brothers, Reginald Samuel Goodwin and Donley Wesley Goodwin; and son-in-law, William "Bill" L. Barron. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jerry Lynn "Gee Gee" Clark Barron and Gene DeLane "Lannie" Clark Jefferson and her husband Larry J. Jefferson; five granddaughters, Lenda Gene Barron McCune of Ft. Worth, TX, Sheryl Lynn Barron Cole and her husband Jim Cole of Minden, LA, Lori Lane Jefferson of New York, New York, Jeri Lei Barron Sistrunk and her husband Scott Sistrunk of Stonewall, LA, and Jennifer Ann Jefferson Smith and her husband Dirk Smith of Arlington, TX; six great grandchildren, Corey McCune, Palei Lynn Escobar, Sean Alan Smith, Lane Alexander Smith, Chelsy Renee Sistrunk, and Chalet Michelle Sistrunk; and two nieces, Betty Jean Goodwin and Judy Merrill and nephew, Sam Goodwin.

It was Mrs. Clark's wish that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Shriner's Hospitals or the charity of the donor's choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
