John Maxey Obituary

John H. Maxey, III

KEITHVILLE, LA John H. Maxey, III, left this life peacefully on Monday morning August 22, 2011. He was at home where he wanted to be surrounded by his family and his favorite "pup" Bastion. Johnny was able to be at home during these last few months and enjoyed working in his yard, which was his pride and joy.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday August 25, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Keithville. Officiating will be Bro. Mike Stowell, pastor of the church and assisting will be Bro. Tom Carlton, pastor of Grawood Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Doyline Cemetery, Doyline, LA. at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday August 24, 2011 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside in Shreveport. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Farrar, Carl Shaw, Don Robinson, Rupert Sepulvado, Alberta Garcia, Rick Chreene, Jimmy Lee and Ellis Goodman.

Johnny was born in Minden, LA on July 28, 1945 to John H. Maxey, Jr. and Kathryn Samuel Maxey. He was a graduate of Minden High School Class of 1963 and attended Northwestern State University.

Johnny began his working career with Riley Beaird, in Shreveport in 1964 where he was employed for 43 years. His career at Beaird covered a wide array of assignments from working in the estimating department, District Sales Manager, Regional & National Sales Manager roles, Project Manager of the Wind Energy Division and ultimately as Business Manager of the Industrial Division. He always credited his success to the people that worked with him. He enjoyed people, especially those at work, and had a special way of bringing humor to the workplace. He understood how a good sense of humor enabled people to enjoy their place of employment and make a better contribution. This was his talent. Of course, life away from the job was extremely important to him. He loved being with his family and friends. He was the type that never met a stranger and welcomed anyone into his home. A hearty laugh or humorous joke was always just a few seconds away. He had a knack that kept people coming back for more visits and more fun. He was quite a character and life was "a heck of a party". He did have his serious side and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keithville and the JOY Sunday School Class. He understood, especially later in life, how important a Christian foundation is. While not perfect, he was a Believer.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 27 years, Regina Elkins Maxey; daughters, Kelley Maxey Cordray and husband Todd of Carrollton, TX, Elizabeth McKay Woods and husband, James of Shreveport; grandchildren, Haley and Dylan Cordray, Ivy, Milo, Rock and soon to be born Annabelle Woods; brother, David Maxey and wife, Brenda of Many, LA along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for their compassionate and caring staff that ministered to Johnny and family.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Keithville Building Fund, 6295 Williams Road, Keithville, LA 71047 or a charity of your choice.

Regina, God bless you and your family in time of loss. I was a 19 year old girl that had the opportunity to work with Johnny at Beaird. He was a joke a minute and will always be remembered with a big smile.
