Dr. Mims was a professor at LA Tech who I have never forgotten. His professional and academic acumen were only eclipsed by his kindness and gentle nature. I learned a great deal from him during my MBA program in 1985 and count myself fortunate to have had Dr Mims as a professor. What a wonderful man and American hero.

Dr. Mims was the BEST professor I ever had! He loved what he did and I am thankful to have been able to enjoy his teachings in my MBA studies . He had a wonderful knack of relating his unique experiences to the subject matter, and took the time to interact with students on a personal level. I fondly remember him and I offer condolences to his family, who are blessed to have him as a member.

I had the pleasure of taking several MBA classes with Dr. Mims. In addition to being an outstanding Professor, he was an outstanding person.
I remember a time where he talked about manually calculating an amortization table and discovering a computer program error; he did this just for fun!
After reading his obituary, his humility was obvious. God Bless you!

It was an honor to work with Fred at Louisiana Tech. He was a kind and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor. His love for the University of Alabama was always at the forefront. My prayers are with his family. He will be missed.

The Final Salute
Brothers and Sisters-in-Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Ollie Fredrick (Fred) Mims our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Fred. To Fred it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Fred, we commend you for your honorable military service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 781 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 177 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Fred's family and loved ones.
