SIDNEY — Rita E. Borland, 90, of 5312 Johnston-Slagle Road, Sidney, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at 6:16 p.m. at her home.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1924, in Versailles, Ohio, the daughter of the late Louis N. and Eleanora C. (Goubeaux) Barga. On Sept. 22, 1945, she married Lowell L. Borland, who preceded her in death April 1, 1994.
She is survived by three children, Craig (Linda) Borland, of Sidney, Wayne Borland, of Fort Loramie, and Rhonda (Rudy) Keister, of Sidney; one sister, Iva Wion, of Greenville; five grandchildren, Tina Carroll, Carisa Dence, Eric, Tara and Chelsey Borland; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers, Norbert, Martin, Bernard, Basil, Noah, Leo, Paul, Vitalis and Mark "John" Barga, and five sisters, Cecilia Gasson, Agnes Kissinger, Lucy Petitjean, Beatrice Barga and Clara Subler.
Mrs. Borland was a homemaker. She farmed side by side with her husband, Lowell, and continued farming after his passing in 1994. She was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and the Pemberton United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, where she served in the Homemakers.
Rita loved her Ohio sports teams including the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and Ohio State Buckeyes. She was also an avid follower of auto racing. She carried a buckeye in her purse at all times, and always wore an angel pin on her shoulder to watch over her. She never knew a stranger.
Rita enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, watching birds, and her cat, Thomas.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Pemberton United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Burley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Pemberton United Methodist Church and Perry-Port-Salem Rescue in memory of Rita E. Borland.
