JACQUELINE SCHWARTZ Obituary
February 8, 1925 – December 10, 2009
Our Mom, Jackie, the "Energizer Bunny" that just kept on ticking, the self proclaimed "Tough Old Bird" passed away peacefully in her home, as she wished, with her four daughters by her side. Mom was preceded in death (December 2001) by our dad, Paul, aka "Pablo", her beloved husband and companion of more than sixty years. Surviving is Rebecca Long, Trudy Emeterio and fiancé Tom Everling, Terri Vaus-Wong, and husband, Les, Jody Schwartz and fiancé Ken Longballa, grandchildren Garrett Emeterio, wife, Christine and their children Garrett and Jordan, Kasey Faris and husband Don, their children Luke and Olivia, Alexandra Vaus, her daughter Jadyn, Bailey Wong and her sweet, but annoying dog, Lady.
Born in Iowa, she graduated from Wayne State, then traveled west to begin her teaching career in Southern California. It was there she met Paul, the "man with the bedroom eyes that was so handsome" in his Air Force uniform. Dad was the owner of Schwartz Oil Company and Mom was always by his side and supported him in everthing he wanted. They were both very active in the San Fernando chapter of the Kiwanis Club and had many good friends. Together, they traveled the world and fished the oceans.
Mom was the family rock and will be so terribly missed. It's very difficult to condense a persons' lifetime into a few short paragraphs but suffice it to say that Mom was one of the original creators of multi-tasking. A schoolteacher, homemaker, chief cook and bottle washer, and the taxi driver for four girls. She endured countless hours on school benches rooting us along in volleyball, gymnastics, basketball and softball. (Sorry for all those slivers in your fanny Mom)! She was as comfortable in an evening gown as she was with a hammer in her hand. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, sewing, gardening, golfing with her friends, volunteering at the hospital, and a good vodka martini – straight up with a twist. She also did her part to spur Nevada's economy through countless (but harmless) donations at the Atlantis Casino. Most of all, Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit that will be sorely missed.
We now understand why people feel the need to give thanks to a hospice organization, doctors, and nurses etc. when someone passes away. So… thank you Dr. Povlony (and Kathy) for never giving up on the "tough old bird" and being kind to her for so many years; thank you Irene Adkisson, Mom's caretaker, for your gentle ways, support and patience; thank you Aubrey for coming to mom's home on many occasions to make her hair gorgeous; thank you Dr. Julian for being so nice – your hugs and kisses made our mom giggle and smile – thank you for caring; thank you Susan Beal, the insurance company adversary, for your truthfulness and kindness: thanks to Leslie, the social worker that helped us make Moms' final wishes come true and to the Vista Care hospice angels, Jeannie, Melissa and Rebecca – thank you, thank you, thank you! To all of our friends that have listened, prayed and cared – we thank you will all our hearts!!
A private family celebration was held Saturday, December 12.
We love you Mom! You're the best and will always live in our hearts.
