Jeannette Krystkowiak Obituary

1940 - 2014

Jeannette Broquist Krystkowiak, 73, a 35 year resident of Santa Clarita, CA passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 after a courageous battle with breast cancer and complications.

Jeannette was born in Great Falls Montana on August 24, 1940, the first of three daughters to Axel and Lillie Broquist. She graduated from Shelby High School and University of Montana with a degree in English. She loved contributing to the intellectual development of children and thus made a career of teaching English, retiring from Saugus High School faculty in 1996. Her enjoyment of art and teaching led her to sharing her passion for painting through local art classes. Her enjoyment of others spurred her work with Avon Products, where she made many long lasting friendships.

While attending college she met the love of her life, Stanley Krystkowiak. She made her home with Stanley in Southern California in 1962. Together they created a loving home for four children, the focal point of their lives. Stanley preceded her in death in 2009 after 47 years of marriage. Their children include sons Christopher, Joseph, and Eric, and daughter Carolyn. They enjoyed having their children living in the same area for much of their time as adults. Each child married: Chris to Nadine, with three children in Castaic; Joe to Donya, with three daughters in Moorpark, Carolyn to Chris Whittington, with two children in Moorpark, and Eric to Melanie, with three children now in Washington DC. Jeannette delighted in seeing her 11 grandchildren grow.

Besides enjoying many happy times with their family, Jeannette and Stanley loved to travel, finding endless things to learn about our world. They made yearly trips throughout the USA to visit parents and siblings in Montana and Oregon. Early on, their adventures involved camping and, later on, enjoying their RV and cabin at Big Bear, CA.

In addition to her four children and 11 grandchildren, she is survived by two sisters, Shirley Deck of Tigard, OR and Sandra Fresh of West Linn, OR. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Monica Fioriglio of Florida and Lucia Kiefer of Montana, and brother-in-law Bernard Krystkowiak of Montana.

Throughout her long struggle with cancer she maintained a cheerful attitude and a determination to enjoy life and her family. Her faith and wisdom sustained her and gave strength to her family. She left this world at peace, surrounded by her family and faith in the promises of a loving Heavenly Father.

Services will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 22508 Copper Hill Dr, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. Remembrances may be sent to Catholic Relief Services (crs.org/donate).
