I can’t comprehend just how sad you must feel
For the loss of someone you love.
This sorrowful time must still feel unreal
And you’re looking for strength from above.

I hope, from my heart, that your pain will decrease,
That your spirit will gain strength again,
And I pray that your faith will create inner peace
And that God will send blessings--Amen.

Till then, if you need me to lighten your load,
I’m waiting to come to your aid.
Just call on me, and I’ll walk down that road,
Until the dark times start to fade.

:: Devyn you will be missed and I promise you I will take care of Alyze and Alexis, I will always keep your baby momma strong.

Deepest condolences,
Catina's Best Friend,

Denyse and family;

We are truly sorry for your loss. No mother should ever have to lose a child. Please take comfort in knowing that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We don't see each other much, but we will always be family. I remember the times we used to spend as kids swimming in the pool in your parents' back yard in Virden (and going to Wareco for candy). It would be so great to go back to simpler times.

I can't believe how much time has moved on. We all have children that are growing up and trying to make their way in the world.

I know that Devyn will be in the hearts and in the thoughts of those who loved him for a long time.

To the family of Devyn,
As a father of five (born '83-'89) you have my deepest sympathy. God does not promise paradise or answers here on earth, but keep faith - remembering the suffering of Jesus - that one day we can be with Him. Despite the cruelty and sadness of this world, God never stops loving us! You will be in my prayers.

To the family and friends of Devyn,I realize there are no words that will ease your pain of loosing someone so close and dear to your heart.Yet I struggle to do so,I have only met Devyn one time I believe it was before he had his daughters names tattooed on his arms.I could tell He held them dear to his heart, his pride was evident. So with this in mind I wish to leave you with a thought from the late Chief Dan George , May the stars carry your sadness may the flowers fill your heart with beauty, may hope forever wipe away your tears, and, above all,may silence make you strong. This little yet meaningful quote is titled,TO A CHILD. SO with this thought,I want to express my dearest and heart felt sympathy to his family, friends, and most of all his beautiful little girls.May god bless every one who holds Devyn in there thoughts.

To Denise Greff and Daryn Heinisch:

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. May god bless you and keep you in the hollow of his hands.
"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," He said.
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn when he is dead,
"It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
"But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
"He'll bring his charms to gladden you, but should his stay be brief,
"You'll have his lovely memories, as solace for your grief,
"I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
"But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
"I've looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
"And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes I have selected you.
"Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
"Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say: "Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
"For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may,
And for happiness we've known forever grateful stay.
"But should the angels call for him much sooner than we'd planned,
"We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand."

Devyn, my son, it breaks my heart that you are not with us anymore. You will never know or experience a lifetime of memories of your family and friends, but you will live on in our hearts and through your daughters. I promise the girls will be taken care of and never forget their father. Even though we didn't see eye to eye on everything, I know you were a good person and man, and I am proud of how you were trying to make your way through this thing we call life. At nineteen you had already had lived through some of lifes toughest curve balls and some of its greatest moments. I am so sorry Devyn, putting my thoughts into words is nearly as hard as watching you slip away from all of us on Sunday. I love you son and I wish I could tell you just one more time.

To Denise Greff and Heinisch Family:

We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers.
LIFE...so fragile. LOSS... so sudden. HEART...so broken.
In the wake of such a loss, we're haunted by things we don't - and may never - understand. Yet the solace we seek may not come from answers. So we look for comfort in the belief of love's everlasting connection. May that love lift you, hold you close, and give you peace.

Denyse,
As a mother I can't even begin to imagine what you must be going through at this time. Even though we don't see each other anymore, the memories of growing up with your family remain close to my heart. I remember when Devyn was born, it doesn't really seem like 19 years have passed since then. To look at his picture and see what a handsome young man he was, and to read about him, I can see that Devyn was just as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside. You must be very proud to call him your son! May all the memories of your times together bring you tears of joy, instead of sorrow, in the days to come. I pray to God everyday that He will give you and your family the strength to get through this tragedy.

September 12, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Daryn, Denyse, Sherry and Family, I remember the day Devyn was born as if it were yesterday. (Little Mr. Macoupin County.) This unfortunate tragedy is most devastating. Some gifts in life are allowed to be enjoyed for a long time, others only briefly. We were so LUCKY to have Devyn on Earth for the brief time we did. May there be joy in your hearts because you had such a wonderful person to love…My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of sorrow.

Devyn,
Words cannot describe the hurt in our hearts. You were such a great kid. Throughout the years I knew you, you were always smiling, laughing, and joking around. You would have never giving a second thought to helping a friend and I am lucky to have been a friend to you in your short life on earth. Rest in Peace, Devyn. We love you.

Devyn,

I didn't know you personally. My friends Shawn and Chantelle knew you. It's very sad what happened to you. It doesn't seem fair. I'm sure you are in a much better place now. God Bless your family. I hope they find peace and have faith at this difficult time.

Devyn we will miss you more than words can ever say and we will think of you each and every day we will never forget the fun times and the laughs we shared we hope you know how much we truly cared.
The memories, hopefully, will be more than enough to get us through, until the day we get to see you.

In a moment of happiness we may not require a hand to hold us but in times of grief we all look for a shoulder to lean on. For the families - stay close and don't let anger get in the way. Embrace the memories that you have and praise Devyn's life through your actions. My heart goes out to the entire family of Devyn Greff.

Devyn you were the best nephew anyone good ever have. You were so loved by so many always with a twinkle in you eye and a smirk on your face. You will forever be loved and missed, we are blessed that you had to beautiful daughters to leave with our family to love.

I pray justice will be served. I pray God will give those who knew you, the strength to understand and deal with the pain of your loss. Devyn, your WONDERFUL smile will forever be treasured in our hearts as we try to understand here on earth why you were taken away so young. You truly will be missed and our sorrows will heal as God gives us the courage and strength. May the memories of your kindness and smile be shared with the two little girls left behind so that they will have fond memories of a father they will not get to know other than through the memories.

I would like to dedicate this poem to you that I had wrote several years ago but I would like it to be understood that it comes from the heart of my son, your friend FOREVER.

A friend like you is all I need
to guide me through each weary dream

You pick me up when I am down
you let me know you are always around

So if I have never told you before,
YOU will ALWAYS been a FRIEND I adore.
