Dorothea Burgener Obituary
Springfield, IL—Dorothea Burgener, 100, of Springfield, died at 8:50 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017.
Dorothea was born July 3, 1917 in Olney, the daughter of Clyde and Effie McWilliams. She married Vernon E. Burgener on November 21, 1940. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2009.
Dorothea was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carl McWilliams; and two sons, Richard and Larry Burgener.
Dorothea graduated from Olney Community High School. She was a member of Antique Dealers Association, Miriam Circle, Kum Double Sunday School Class, and Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church. Dorothea enjoyed needlepointing, playing cards (especially bridge), gardening, and collecting china.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (Sandy) Burgener of Champaign and Dennis Burgener of Chicago; daughter-in-law Linda Burgener of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, JoAnne (Aaron) LeVeck, Todd (Kathleen) Burgener, Tim (Kate) Burgener, Scott (Joci) Burgener, and Amy (Elmer) Connin; great-grandchildren, Tristan Burgener, Stefan Burgener, Jake (Rose) Dunahee, Jeremiah Dunahee, Caleb Dunahee, Ian Burgener, Hannah Burgener, Henry Burgener, and Louis Burgener; and great-great-grandchildren, Iggy and Mayla Dunahee.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Douglas Avenue UMC, 501 S. Douglas, until the time of the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
