ELMHURST - Joseph A. "Joe" Nelson, Jr., 80, of Elmhurst died on Saturday, May 14th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 28, 1930 in Cairo, IL the son of Joseph A. Sr. and Agnes Leavitt Nelson. He married Barbara Trotter on June 12, 1954 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Jack Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, 1 daughter Jill, 5 sons, Joe III, Jim, John, Jeff and Jerry, 5 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mary Ellen Sronce, Pat McGee and Cindy Farley, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nelson enjoyed family outings, was an avid golfer, and especially looked forward to an annual golf trip to Wisconsin with his sons, nephews and friends. He was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Elmhurst. He served in the U.S. Army and reserves, and was retired from Peoria Engraving in Chicago where he was a representative and salesman for over 40 years. Funeral services were held May 18th in Elmhurst. Memorials may be made to Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst. Info at 630-834-3515.
