Samuel Wood Obituary
Springfield, IL—Samuel Wood (Level 40 Pokémon Master and Navy Veteran), 69, of Springfield passed away peacefully in his home on September 26th, 2018.
Sam was born on November 8th, 1948 to Mabel (Followell) and Albert Wood, and pretty much lived life on his own terms ever since. He found fulfillment in classic country music, zippo lighters, dancing to slow songs, Harry Potter, looking like Santa Claus, antiques and jewelry, his love-hate (but mostly love) relationship with his cats, playing Pokémon Go in the park, and in making up fun phrases to use with his family (ex. Genius Hair=Hair that stands on end).
While his "Mischief [is] Managed" for now, he leaves behind an incredibly loving (and surely patient) wife of almost 51 years, Elizabeth (Solomon) Wood, his four children Samantha Wood, Rachael (husband David) Goldsborough (Wood), John (wife Alicia) Wood, and Christina Donaldson (Wood), 16 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also really cared about Team Valor (of Pokémon Go), that created a wide network of dear friends who stuck with him to the very end.
He has requested a graveside service which will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Camp Butler with a Celebration of Life immediately following at West Side Christian Church.
Per his request, in lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Children's Miracle Network.
