To the family of Barbara Groves, I wanted your family to know that I was the very lucky person who was able to purchase Barb's fabric and sewing "stash". I wanted you to know that all of her beautiful fabrics and embellishments went to a good home. I have been an embroiderer, quilter, sewer and needle worker since I was about 12. I'm now 65 years old, and my focus is sewing quilted "art" garments. As I read through Barb's obituary, I found out her and I shared a fondness for the very same hobbies, all the way across the board. When I purchased the bulk of Barb's treasure from Predecessors, in Anacortes, I felt like I had won the lottery. Then when I got home with all the wonderful things, and began to go through them, I could just sense I had acquired the very loved and personally picked treasures of a kindred spirit. I grew up, and lived most of my life, in Des Moines, Iowa. I was taught by my Grandmother, Anna Mae Wheeler, to sew and embroider. I have been an award winning seamstress and needle worker since 1983. I have taught classes in many different needle arts and garments. I wanted her family to know how very fortunate I feel to be the recipient of all of Barb's treasures. I only hope when I pass, someone takes the time to let my family know where my "stuff" went and how grateful they are to have it, as I am, with Barb's treasures. I would have loved to meet her, she sounds like she was a true jewel of a Lady and an extremely creatively talented woman! As you near the first anniversary of her death, my prayers are with your family! Please just know Barb's legacy lives on in my hands. God bless and love to you all!

I put on my kimono jacket for a Christmas potluck and thought of Barb. She was a great teacher. Her classes were always fun, interesting and challenging. And, we laughed and laughed. She taught me to look at fabric with new eyes and just not be afraid to try something.
