HAROLD FISHER, JR. Obituary

Harold Dodge Fisher, Jr, 89 of Mount Vernon, WA, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 6, 2015. The son of Ethel and Harold D. Fisher, Sr., Harold was born April 6, 1926 in Bellingham, where he grew up with his sister Joanne. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1944 and was immediately drafted in to the U.S. Army. He sustained injuries in battle the day after his 19th birthday while serving in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart with honorable discharge.

Harold attended WSC (now WSU) and graduated from WWU obtaining his Masters of Arts in Education.

Sixty-five years ago Harold married Joanne (Joedy) Habegger on December 25, 1950 in Seattle. Upon settling in Mount Vernon, Harold began his teaching career which spanned 32 years, culminating with his principalship at Washington Elementary School for 28 of those years. He was actively involved in the Mount Vernon community in many capacities.

Harold's 1941 Packard was known around town as he was an avid car collector. The other favorite vehicles he loved to restore and drive were his 1949 Dodge pick up, 1930 Model A and 1942 restored WWII army Jeep. Harold had a special affinity for the army Jeep as it represented the vehicle that rescued him from the battlefield while serving in Germany after he was wounded. He was often seen driving in local parades and events with the Jeep.

Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years Joanne, two daughters, Sue (Doug) Rindal of Mount Vernon, Jan (Mike) Liepman of Snohomish, two sons, Jeff (Debbie) Fisher of Redmond, Greg (Wanda) Fisher of Woodinville, one sister, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Harold was a strong and loving husband, servant and father. The family members have all expressed their love, appreciation and gratefulness to God for Harold's presence, love and impact in their lives. He leaves a big hole in their hearts but they rejoice in his home -going to his Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 11 at the First United Methodist Church, 1607 E. Division St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274. A light reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

I remember Mr. Fisher has a very kind man with a huge heart to go along with the huge job of being Principal of Washington Elementary. He touched a lot of hearts. I even recall he and my father, Mike W. Martin, going potato harvesting together. Rest in Peace, Mr. Fisher. You are fondly remembered.
