John Phillip Cayou, Jr., 73, a resident of Swinomish passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, January 17, 2022, with his loving family by his side. John was born on March 18, 1948, the son of John Henry and Madeline (Stone) Cayou, Sr. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2022, 11:30 AM at the Swinomish Cemetery. You may offer your condolences and share memories of John to his family online at www.kernfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.

It is very sad for me to know that I will not see John when I am out and about. John and Gwen officiated at my husband Rod Frederick's funeral. I still love my deceased husband very much and think of him everyday, even though he passed in 2012. Rod was an enrolled turtle-Mountain Chippewa from North Dakota. After a huge success in business, he was often away from his Native heritage. John knew how I felt about this. Part of Rod's memorial service was to add the Native beliefs that had long been missing from Rod's life. I have known John since 1989, when I first came to work at Swinomish. John and Gwen traveled to University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle and prayed on me when I was not expected to live. I am forever in his debt. Fly on, old friend. Love to your family.
