Sandra Stewart Obituary

Mount Vernon - Sandra L. Stewart, a lifelong resident of Skagit Valley, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 75.

She was born in Mount Vernon, Washington on March 4, 1948 to Merle and Louise (Bart) Youngquist.

After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1966, she attended Washington State University for one year, studying Home Economics. Upon her return to Mount Vernon, she worked as a secretary for the Contintental Telephone Co.

On June 28, 1974, Sandy married Gary Stewart in Mount Vernon, WA. They spent their lives together raising a family in Skagit Valley. They also owned and operated Conway Foods in Conway, WA for almost 30 years. She was an avid cook and baker and was well known for many dishes. Some examples were her chocolate cake, made from scratch along with the frosting- she wouldn't allow a "boxed" cake in her kitchen, potato salad, coleslaw, and the many pounds of almond roca candy she made and distributed every Christmas. Sandy was an expert seamstress, and enjoyed crotchet, knitting, and cross-stitch. The latter became her main pastime in later years when her increasing lack of mobility prevented her from cooking or sewing. Sandy also liked to watch the Mariners, the Seahawks, and CMT (Country Music Television).

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Louise Youngquist; brothers, Brian and Brad Youngquist; grandparents, Emil and Lena Youngquist and Edith Bart (Thompson).

She leaves behind her husband, Gary Stewart; son, Matt (Alison); daughter, Alyssa; grandsons, Benjamin and Liam; numerous extended in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Eden Home Health and to Hospice of the Northwest for their kindness in caring for both Sandra and her family. They also wish to thank Bob and Pam Burkland for all their support and the meals they sent.

There will be a service announced at a later date.
