Susan White Obituary

Mount Vernon - Susan "Sue" White, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 15th at Skagit Valley Hospital following cardiac arrest. She was born in Mount Vernon WA and graduated from Mount Vernon High (1969), Skagit Valley College (1971), and Bellingham Technical College. She worked in Burlington as a dental assistant for Richard Johnson, DDS, for 32 years. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1994, Sue was a courageous fighter and delayed the disease progression by keeping active outdoors, exercising with trainers at a local fitness center, and through many hobbies.

Sue played the saxophone in school bands beginning in the 5th grade and continuing into college. She was a pitcher on the softball team at SVC, and played tennis, field hockey, and basketball at SVC and with local teams after graduation. Her teams won many trophies during 1970s and 1980s. Sue built a home through the Skagit Self Help Housing program in 1983-84. Her hobbies included wood working and carving, writing poetry and songs, riding motorcycles, camping, and working in her garden. She also loved painting by number, camping with family in their motorhomes, and hosting humorous Halloween parties. Sue was devoted to her family, organizing their annual summer campouts and hosting their annual holiday gatherings with Gayle at their home in Mount Vernon.

Sue met Gayle Brenchley on a blind date on New Years Eve of 1998. They lived together in Seattle from 1999 to 2008, and then in Mount Vernon where they created a peaceful home with beautiful gardens. The couple was married legally in 2013. Sue is survived by her wife, Gayle, twin-sister Sharon Grooms, brothers Terry White (Renee Ellestad), Michael White (Kim Coker), and Roger White (Mary), 5 nieces and a nephew. She is preceded in death by Dorothy and Jack Dartnell (mother and step-father), Wallace White (father), and Andrew Allison (nephew). Sue will be missed greatly by many.

A private family graveside service will be held followed by a celebration of life for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. on July 20, 2025 in Sue's garden. Contact Kerns Funeral Home, Gayle or Gael B for more information.
