William Pollock Obituary

NILES - Pastor William J. Pollock, 74, of Ruth Court, Niles, died at 4:51 p.m. Saturday, May 16th, in Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, following a brief illness. Pastor Pollock was born on June 10, 1924, in Niles, to Omar R. and Lydia Elizabeth (Metzger) Pollock. He graduated from Niles High School with the class of 1952 and was a lifetime resident of Niles. He was the current pastor for 20 years at the Apostolic Christian Tabernacle, Niles. In 1987, after 32 years of service, he retired from Buchanan Steel. He was also a former security guard at Whirlpool Inc., Saint Joseph, MI, and was a part-time employee at Garden City Products, Niles. Pastor Pollock served as Elder at the Apostolic Temple, South Bend, IN, and Faith Assembly, Niles. He was secretary-treasurer for the North Central District of International Ministers Association in Lecanto, Florida. He was a member of the Niles-Buchanan YMCA. He enjoyed motorcycles and taking long rides with his family, crossword puzzles and Scrabble. His great joy was spending time with his family. On April 10, 1954, in South Bend, he first married the former Maris J. Kruck, who preceded him in death. Later, on August 5, 2000, in Niles, he married the former Sherry (Coad) Barnes, who survives. He is also survived by his children, David William (Ingrid) Pollock of Shell Beach, CA, Randall James Pollock of Niles and Jonathan Barnes of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Isaac (Carrie) Pollock of Cadiz, CA, Tegan (Todd) Willard of Weathersfield, CT; great-grandsons, Liam Willard and Nyah Pollock; sisters, Janet A. Petro of South Bend and Beth A. Overmyer of Mishawaka, IN; several nieces and nephews. The funeral services for Pastor William J. Pollock will be held Wednesday, May 20, at 1 p.m. in Apostolic Christian Tabernacle, Niles, with Pastor James Hightower of World of Life Ministries, Benton Harbor, MI, officiating. Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles. Contribution in memory of Pastor Pollock may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Apostolic Christian Tabernacle.
