Lorna Morwick Obituary

Lorna Elizabeth Bette Morwick, 94, of Lakeville, formerly of Scituate, died at St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, May 29, 2011. She was the wife of the late William John Morwick. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Lorna Smith. She graduated form Medford High School in 1934 and married William in 1939. They were married for 62 years and lived in Scituate since 1948. Bette moved to Lakeville in 2009 to be closer to her son. She worked as bookkeeper for several companies in the Boston area and also worked at the Scituate Playhouse upon moving to Scituate. She also was a cook at the former East Wind Restaurant in Scituate Harbor. Bette spent many years as a Den Mother, Brownie leader and Girl Scout leader in Scituate. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching golf on tv and had become an avid Patriots fan. Along with her husband, she loved square dancing and was a member of the Lofty Squares Square Dance Club in Weymouth for many years. She was also an excellent cook who delighter grandchildren each Christmas Eve with homemade chocolate sauce and peppermint ice cream. She is survived by a son, David A. Morwick and his fiancee Geri Taylor of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Allison Scanlon of Sag Harbor, N.Y., Kristen Morwick of Medford, Lorna Hickey of Halifax and David Morwick Jr. of Los Angeles; and a former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Morwick of Los Angeles. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Sydney Kane and Jill Hickey of Halifax and Seamus, Colin and Niamh Scanlon of Sag Harbor, N.Y.; and was the mother of the late Jeanne Aileen Morwick. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville. Donations may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, 780 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate, MA 02066, or to St. Lukes Hospital, External Affairs Philanthropy, 101 Page St., New Bedford, MA.
