William Turner Obituary

William E. Turner Jr., 71, of West Bridgewater died unexpectedly May 11. Bill was the son of the late William Sr. and Claire F. (Thoutte) Turner and grew up in West Bridgewater. He was a graduate of West Bridgewater High School, Worcester Academy, and Norwich University Class of 1965. Bill was a great baseball player growing up, playing both scholastically and semi-pro. He married Elene on July 2, 1966 and the two raised their children in West Bridgewater. He started working for Turner Steel as a young child and became president in 1965. Bill worked tirelessly alongside his brothers Carl, late Kenneth and son Glenn for many years and was always proud of the company they helped make so successful. After retiring in 2007, he spent more time with family and friends, gardening, traveling and many other activities. Bill loved staying active; whether it was getting breakfast at Pomeroys or one of his most recent favorite coffee shops, serving on various boards in West Bridgewater, being a longtime trustee of Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center or serving on the Board at Pine Hill Cemetery, he loved staying involved. Despite never being shy about his opinion and wanting things done the right way; he always loved his family, Turner Steel, the community he lived in, and the friends he made along the way. Bill was the loving husband of Elene (Wipperman) Turner of West Bridgewater; loving father of Laurie A. Turner-Curran of West Bridgewater, Michelle L. Fusco and her husband Paul C. of Bridgewater, Glenn W. Turner and his wife Jennifer N. of West Bridgewater; loving Papa of Morgan, Jason, Nicole, Hutch, Jake, Gage, Riley; and brother of Carl and Dale Turner of Easton, the late Kenneth A. Turner and his wife Paula Turner of Harwich; uncle of Stephen, Jennifer, Kathleen, and Andrea. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, Friday, May 17, at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anns Church, 103 N. Main St., West Bridgewater, at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To Bill's loved ones,

I wish to express to you my deepest sympathy regarding Bill's recent passing. Although he had a different relationship with each of you, I'm sure all of you find his loss to be painful. When my father passed our family lost our patriarch: the loving husband, the loving father, the treasured brother, the loving papa; I know he must have meant so much to each of you.

I hope it is of some solace that Bill is so fondly remembered by so many people – and that those people sympathize and empathize with your loss.

With heartfelt condolences,

Brian York

Our deepest and sincere sympathy to you and your family. I will never forget the time I was at the car wash here in Bonita getting my car washed and there was Bill. He and I got to talking about how we loved a good cup of coffee in the morning. I told him how much I love Dunkin Donut coffee and the next thing I know he was pulling out a $30.00 gift certificate from his wallet to none other than DunkinDonuts! He gave it to me and told me to enjoy my coffee. What a sweet and wonderful man. When he left this season he came up to me and said good bye, I'll be seeing you... You were blessed to have him as a part of your life. Love and peace to you all.

Elene,

I would extend my sincere sympathy to you and your family. I hope your memories of his joys, his love of family and his jest for life will give you comfort in this difficult time. I first met “Sergeant Bill” 50 years ago as a freshman at Norwich. You could not help but like this young man with the infectious smile and twinkle in his eye. Even as he was chewing me out for not having my shoes shined, he would give me that smile. Every five years we would meet at a re-union and catch up on each others life. I know he is looking down on you and all of us with a smile and twinkle in his saying I am Ok. Goodbye and Rest in Peace Bill.
