To the Wootten Family: Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I feel privileged to have known Coach Wootten -- meeting him for the first time as camper at Metropolitan Area Basketball School and working with him and Coach Gallagher as a counselor at MABS during my years playing for St. John's. Although I played the last of seven varsity games against DeMatha nearly 43 years ago, I can remember every one of them. St. John's v. DeMatha was, and is to this day, a rivalry with no equal, and I consider it a privilege to have competed against Coach Wootten and the Stags. The players played and the coaches coached with everything they had in those games and when the buzzer sounded we left the court with abiding respect for one another and the rivalry. And as hard as they competed, Coach Gallagher and Coach Wootten had an abiding respect for one another that transcended the games and impacted everyone who played. I can only imagine the chats they have been having in heaven about past games and the occasional bad call!! I feel badly that I was not able to attend Coach's services given my location on the other coast, but be assured that Coach and the entire Wootten family have been in my thoughts and prayers.

From 1998 to 2007 I attended Coach Morgan's basketball camp at Frostburg State University and grew into the individual I am today. Being able to learn from him and occasionally sharing a meal with him has stayed with me over these years. In 2013, before finishing college, I visited the basketball hall of fame and reveled in the exhibit for Coach Morgan, remembering all the lessons he taught many people over the years. May he rest in peace and my sympathies to the Wooten family.

Somewhere around 1969 - I was so fortunate to attend a basketball climic for women with Coach Wootten, when the rules changed to a 5 person team that went full court. I was a point guard and coach helped me with the positioning of my hands on the ball improving my shooting percentage, especially at the foul line where I shot over 95% my senior year. His clinic taught us the fast break and a zone overload that our Pallotti women's team utilized to win the league, undefeated in 1970-71. I have always cherished my short time with such a basketball icon and such a sincere and passionate coach. What a difference he made...to so many women athletes!
My condolences to the entire Wootten family. May God bless all of you in this difficult time. I am so grateful to have been able to meet Coach Wootten.

One of the most wonderful men ever. He embodied everything good and that goodness shone through in his words, actions and smile. 8AM Mass at St. Marks will never be the same without the Coach, but now that we learned that heaven has a Hall of Fame and he's in it, we are consoled.
Our hearts go out to you Kathy, and your family. You were the most caring caregiver EVER.

I had the privilege and great pleasure meeting coach Wootten at a clinic his son put on at the Easton Md high school gym a few years ago. I caught him at a very good time, and we had a thirty minute conversation. He was not only the greatest basketball coach in history, he was also as wonderful a gentleman as could be imagined. He was so willing to answer my questions and tell me about his favorite experiences as a coach, including knocking off Power Memorial high school and Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) and their 71 game winning streak. Coach Wootten was an absolutely incredible human being. Will see him again on the other side. God's richest blessings on his family. Bill Dickerson

I knew Morgan Wooten since I was 12 years old first at the old Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD then followed him throughout my basketball officiating career. He would always encourage you to constantly improve your skills by going to summer camps whether as a coach, player and or referee. He was truly one of my greatest mentors like I'm sure many others from all over the Basketball world. He will surely be missed but his legacy will live on forever. He is with the Lord now as I know how much of a Christian he was. To his family especially his son Joe, I feel your pain & I pray that God will be their to strengthen you. In Jesus name we pray amen.
