Daniel Baumann Obituary

Daniel James Baumann

SUMMERFIELD, FL-- Daniel James Baumann passed away peacefully at home May 5, 2012. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, brother, Ramon Baumann: daughter, Gretchen Baumann (Bradley Lutz); son, Scott Baumann; grandchildren, Olivia and Ryder Baumann, Maddie and Cody Lutz, Hughston Reeves and Seth Brannon.
He proudly served 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri. During that time he wrote a column called "Lookin it Over" for The Beam USA newspaper. He went to the University of Kansas where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He retired from Milliken and Company after 33 years of service
He was a loving husband, father and friend. He loved a good joke and never left you without a smile. Dan was an avid reader and enjoyed all genres of music. He was a longtime member at Lan-Yair Country Club where he twice realized every golfer's dream...a hole-in-one.
He and Dorothy embarked on their new life adventure in 2004 by moving to Florida. Once settled, Dan enjoyed the year-round golf, became an active member of shuffleboard and Bocce teams and enjoyed a regular Monday night of pool with several buddies. Dan was also a proud member of The Shufflers/Table 13 trivia team and looked forward to the weekly competitions. He competed in the Senior Olympics and in 2011 won a silver medal for closest to the pin and a bronze medal for shuffleboard. He also enjoyed tutoring the students in the K5 class at Belleview-Santos Elementary School.
Dan was best known for being the #1 Kansas Jayhawk fan east of the Mississippi. ROCK CHALK, JAYHAWK!
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 10, at Village View Community Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, The Villages, FL, www.hiers-baxley.net/obituaries.

We had a great time with Dan when we came to Florida. He was wonderful with Rachel and Conner. He taught us all to play Mexican Train Dominos. Great memories.
