Dorothy Barlow Van Horn
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Dorothy Barlow Van Horn, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 4, 2016, at Physical Rehab & Wellness Center. Born January 14, 1926, in Lytham, England, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice James Barlow and widow of William D. Van Horn. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
An English war-bride and phenomenal mother, Dorothy loved to garden and cook. She never met a stranger, was formerly employed with Dillard's Department Store, and was an air-raid warden during World War II. A member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC she was also a member of St. Theresa's Guild.
Surviving are her children, Bruce George Van Horn (Karen) of Anderson, SC, Vincent Mark Van Horn (Loreen) of Mauldin, SC and Suzanne Marie Wiltfang (Gregg) of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cooley (Tony) of Anderson, SC, Christina Mary Van Horn of Mauldin, SC, Perry Gregg Wiltfang (Lou) of Spartanburg, SC, and Stephanie Wiltfang delForn (Geoff) of Statesboro, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Rhett Wiltfang, Anna Perry Wiltfang, and Blakely delForn. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Barlow and George Barlow; and a sister, Mary Barlow McKay.
Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 PM Friday, January 8, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Petersen.
No flowers please, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or online at www.alz.org.
