Greta Kerns Obituary


Greta Jane Kerns was born September 7, 1955, and she went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020. She was the daughter of Otis and Ruth (Teamer) Kerns. She grew up in Spartanburg County and graduated from Dorman High School in 1973. She attended Hardy Chapel Baptist Church and Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church during her childhood and formative years. Later, Greta attended church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she lived for more than twenty years. While in Baton Rouge, Greta graduated from Bible College. Greta returned to Spartanburg and attended various churches in the Spartanburg area the last few years. The majority of Greta's career was spent in the Home Health Care industry and she was employed with the Charles Lea Center for many years. Greta was a substitute teacher in Spartanburg County School District 6 and District 7 schools. After returning to Spartanburg, Greta attended culinary school where she developed a passion for baking cakes. One of Greta's passion was thrifting. Greta found many fashionable outfits at thrift stores. Greta never met a stranger. She was always friendly and outgoing. Greta was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. She leaves many family members to cherish fond and lasting memories - brothers: Odell (Claretta) Kerns of Duncan, SC; Thomas (Faye) Kerns of Spartanburg, SC; Otis Samuel Kerns of Kew Gardens, NY and sister Brenda Lorene Kerns of Spartanburg, SC. Aunts: Melba Kerns and Lillian Kerns both of Spartanburg, SC. Nieces: Lynnell (Jackie) Lawson, Jessica Ruth (Chris) Minor, Koretta (Derrick) Parker and Rachel Kerns. Nephews: Sean (Felicia) Kerns, Odell, Jr. (Nakia) Kerns and Derrick (Kelly Ann) Pearson. Greta also leaves her special friend Robert Haywood, many great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be held Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Serenity-Murray Mortuary from 2pm -5pm.
Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 28, 2020 at Heritage Memorial Gardens. Online condolences and copies of obituaries are available atwww.serenitymurraymortuary.com. Sacred arrangements entrusted to SERENITY-MURRAY MORTUARY.
