COSTELLO, Daniel R. Daniel R. Costello passed away on November 5, 2015 in his home. He was 87 years old. Dan was born in Spokane to John Costello and Mary Young on April 24, 1928. He graduated from John Rogers High School and lived in Spokane his entire life as an active member of his community and church. Dan served in the army as an x-ray technician. He met his wife, Barbara L. Deno, in a square dancing group and they were married August 6, 1949. Dan supported his wife and four children as a self-employed general contractor. He built their home on two acres on Rifle Club Road and lived there 60 years. Many large family gatherings were held at the home to celebrate holidays such as Easter, Christmas, July 4th, and Bloomsday. Dan had been a member of the Spokane Rifle Club, the Eagles Lodge, and the Spokane Pilot's Club. Dan was an enthusiast at everything he did. This included motorcycle and car racing, piloting his plane, woodworking, golfing, and gardening. In his retirement he made furniture, toys for the grandchildren, and home decorations. An avid jogger, Dan was most proud of his 23 years as a Lilac Bloomsday finisher and running two marathons. His family has carried on the tradition by still participating in fun runs and celebrating Bloomsday every year. Dan was a loving husband to his wife Barbara for 66 years and was loved by his entire family as well as all who met him. Dan will be missed by all those who knew him because of his enthusiasm for life and new experiences. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; sister, Virginia McFarland (Arlo); brother, Vincent Costello (Dena) in Clovis, CA; sons, Tom Costello (Bonni) and Gene Costello; daughters, Rita Henning (Terry), and Linda Petrie (Harold); ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
