Derek INTINARELLI Obituary

Derek was a son, brother, father, uncle and a dear friend to many. He was the person whose presence at family gatherings was anticipated with excitement. Derek always brought the party along with him with food, drink, gifts and stories. He would take over the kitchen or grill after arriving. His tomato sauce was made from a family recipe handed down through Grandpa Bill from relatives in Italy.

Born November 4th, 1970, in Warwick, Rhode Island to Greg Intinarelli and Cynthia Schultz, Derek filled many family roles with an assortment of people. He was Greg and Sue Weitz's son and Benjamin and Cynthia's as well. Derek also lived for a year with Grandma Barbara and his uncle Rob. He was a brother to Lauran, Marcus, Avery, Onya and Sebastian. A doting father, he and Ali's daughters Hillary, Emma and Lily gave him a grounding during the rest of his life.

Sports were among Derek's passions. He and Greg spent many hours playing hoops, street hockey and whiffle ball. Derek also enjoyed playing golf, tennis and watching F1 racing. As a teenager he attended Lewis and Clark and graduated from East Valley High School in 1989. He was a good athlete playing basketball, soccer and track.

After delivering papers for the S-R, mowing lawns, raking leaves and shoveling snow around the Cliff Park neighborhood, Derek started his hospitality career at the Story Inn in Story, Indiana. After earning several industry certifications and awards he continued from Food and Beverage Manager to CEO Club Manager positions in Indiana, California, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Florida, and finally as General Manager of the Spokane Club. Along the way he developed an expertise and reputation for resurrecting and reviving failing golf, corporate and resort clubs.

Following a family Christmas celebration in Florida, Derek died in Spokane, Washington December 27, 2024, from diabetic complications. Celebrations of life will be held in Nashville, Indiana on August 23rd, 2025. A Spokane family celebration will be at a future date. Memorial condolences and/or donations may be made through Yates Funeral Home in CDA, Idaho.

Derek's lively spirit will live on, not only through his parents, siblings, daughters, and friends (Troy, Brian, Greg, Yuri, Steve, and Jason), but through all who knew him.

First met and spent time with Derek when his father, Greg and I had an apartment when we were student teaching at a large high school in Indianapolis. Derek loved to hang out. What he loved more were games of all sorts. He was curious about everything. Even at 6 years old, he was remarkably tuned into and understood people. He brought smiles to any face at any time. I last spent time with Derek at a family gathering in Spokane in 2017. His ways had only matured and grown richer. Derek was simply at ease with any group of people, making everyone feel comfortable and sincerely heard. He had a true gift in bringing smiles and laughter to anyone who was lucky enough to be with him.
