Judy McBROOM Obituary

Judy S McBroom, AKA (affectionately known as) Grandma Judy, Short Lady, Miss Judy, Peanut, and Kiddo passed away on January 16, 2024. She will be remembered as a loving caring Mom with her commitment to family. If needed she was there. She loved everything about life, from Bobby Sox to Compression Socks, from Rock and Roll to Rocking Chair. Independent to a fault she had the compassion of Mother Theresa and the right was right and wrong was wrong of Judge Judy. But she will probably be remembered most for her great (sometimes a little quirky) sense of humor.

She enjoyed vacationing with her Grandkids, attending school functions, the pizza tailgate parties after swimming lessons, and of course the traditional Christmas cookie-baking marathons of over 60 years. These things will be missed by all.

As a lifelong learner, her interests were: History, reading, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, knitting, and keeping up with world events. And she loved the simple things in life. Things money couldn't buy: a slurpy kiss from a puppy, a baby's genuine laugh.

She had a special place in her heart for those who had no voice in their world, the doggies, the kitties, the children, and many of our elderly.

She began playing the piano at age 5. Though she couldn't read music she played professionally at piano/organ bars at many of Spokane's "hot spots" and finer restaurants in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, ending that career at the Flamingo Restaurant. Her music favorites were Oldies but Goodies (back when the words made sense) Rock and Roll, Country Western, and Broadway Musicals, but her very favorite was Southern Gospel with a touch of the blues by Elvis, Bill Gaither, and Jimmy Swaggart.

She worked at Ace Hardware, Nickel Nik, and retired from Lee Enterprises.

She is survived by two sons: Mark (Darla, truly a blessing in my life) Roy Jr, and three grandchildren, Jessica, Melbourne, and Brisbane, Two great-grandchildren Hayden and Ariana, and her brother Frank.

In honor of Mom's request, there will be no service.

We would like to thank the doctors and staff of Holy Family Hospital, and Royal Park Evergreen Wing. Special thanks the Thelma McBroom who was there for her always.

I could remember many times we went to the lake and her home at the river

Lovely Judy has left us behind to join her Saviour. What a wonderful, infectious laugh she had. We loved listening to her stories of her family. What an incredible joy to have been blessed with her friendship. She will be missed greatly.

The photo of Judy is from Christmas 2022 where she played piano at Cedar Plass so we could sing carols. Judy was my friend, and I always enjoyed her company as she had common sense, was up on current issues, and had an optimistic and independent outlook. Everyone spoke well of her, and from my point of view, she stole the "I Love Lucy" title. I miss her.

Judy and I were each other's Secret Santa at Lee NW Publishing one year. I spoiled her with a gift every day for a couple weeks. Everything, including Christmas dinner from Mrs Claus, arrived via courier. She didn't figure it out until the reveal. It was so much fun.
We all loved Judy and had a blast working with her.
