Kathrine MANTYLA Obituary

Jul 28, 1943 - Mar 22, 2026

In Loving Memory

A Life of Strength and Devotion: Kathrine Mantyla, the steadfast matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully in her Spokane home on March 22, 2026. She was 82 years old. In her final moments, she was next to the man who held her most dear: her devoted husband, Doug Mantyla. Born on July 28, 1943, in Jerome, Idaho, Kathrine eventually made her home in Spokane, Washington, in 1962 after marrying Doug, where she spent the majority of her life building a legacy of resilience and unconditional love.

The Heart of the Home and the Harvest: Known to everyone as a "strong woman," Kathrine lived by the conviction that "Charity starts at home." While her strength was her trademark, her devotion to family was her greatest gift. She was a master homekeeper who believed her duties as a wife, daughter, and mother came first. Her home was the epicenter of the family, especially during the holidays, which she loved to host. No one ever left "Nana Boo's" table hungry, and her holiday dinners remain the gold standard for all who knew her.

Her nurturing spirit extended to her garden as well. Kathrine was a dedicated gardener who found peace tending to her greenhouse and her expansive garden. Her family will forever cherish the summer ritual of picking raspberries or tomatoes from her massive patch; a harvest she took great pride in and encouraged her children and grandchildren to share in every year.

A Pillar of Family and Business: Kathrine's life was guided by service to her husband and their business, as well as the important duties of raising her family. This foundation of service and integrity was evident in her professional life as well. Alongside her husband, Doug, she was the powerful engine behind their successful General Contracting business. Throughout the decades, Kathrine navigated the complex challenges of a growing business with the same grit she applied to every other part of her life. Whether managing logistics or helping the family weather tough seasons, she was the stabilizing force that kept the foundation solid. Doug often remarked that the business simply could not have succeeded without her; she was the partner whose organizational skill and tireless work ethic turned their professional dreams into a reality that supported their family and impacted Spokane's economy in very meaningful ways.

Her Lasting Legacy: Kathrine is survived by her loving husband, Doug Mantyla; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two daughters. Each of them carries a piece of her strength and teaching that family is the greatest priority. Though she has left her earthly garden, she will be watching the seeds of love, wisdom, and strength she planted in her children and grandchildren continue to bloom for years to come from up above.
