Michael KUSTERER Obituary

Michael Charles Kusterer of Spokane passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at age 88. He was born at Sacred Heart to Violet Desboro on November 9, 1934. He is succeeded by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Kusterer, his sister Gerilee Christensen, and his four children: Terri Anderson (Ted), Catherine Chestnutt (Mike), Bradley Kusterer, Lianne Waters (Jeff), and 16 grandchildren. Mike played football and basketball and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1953. He went on to become a respected police officer for the City of Spokane for 30 years. He retired a Sergeant in 1990. His kids recall memories of their dad taking care of their childhood farm, bringing home Terri's horse Gamble, fishing in Alaska, as well as his dry sense of humor. Mike also enjoyed the simpler things in life like reading a Patterson novel, watching Mariners games, and hearing the holiday music on his intricate ornaments. Barb looks back fondly on many years of love in their marriage, and their happy honeymoon in Yellowstone. Mike's life of integrity, consistency and his big heart made it easy for many to be close to him in his final days. We are all mourning his loss and thinking of his absence. Condolences may be expressed at Mike's funeral at St. Anthony's Parish on November 26th at noon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Spokane. Services have been entrusted to Holy Cross Funeral and Cemetery Services. Please visit Mike's online memorial at www.holycrossofspokane.org.
