I haven't seen Mike since the years right after high school but, what a guy. We skied together for those years during school, then I lost track of him. But I always remember him for being gregarious and fun-loving. The innocence of those days are great memories that I wish I had the chance to live over again in stories over a beer. My condolences to everyone affected by his loss and my wish to you, Mike to rest in peace.

Michael was more than just a hairdresser. He was the man I looked forward to seeing and sharing stories with every six weeks. He had that winning smile and jovial manner that could cheer up the gloomiest of days. He will be missed by so many. RIP, Michael. Dianne Cline

Michael was the first person who took a chance on letting me sell my jewelry at The River's Edge Salon when I was first starting my beauty supply many years ago. He was always friendly and kind to me and I pray he is resting in peace. Kathy Shireman

I just learned of Michaels passing yesterday and am still in shock. I can't quit crying with the realization that I will never see his sweet smile and that twinkle in his eye when I walk though that door & how he loomed over me when he stood up. He was my hairdresser for over 25 years, since the River's Edge days, but he was much more than that. He was my friend, my confidant and one of the most interesting, genuine & kind men I have ever met. We shared so many conversations & laughs over the years about anything & everything. He so loved his family & friends & spoke often of each of you. I loved hearing his plans for his property and how he just got the pond going. I am sorry I didnt know soon enough to be at the memorial as I would have liked to have met all the people I have heard so much about over the years. I feel honored & blessed to have had the privilege to have called this great man my friend. I cannot begin to express the sadness I feel & the empty hole in my heart. I will treasure the times & many memories we shared. You will never be forgotten my friend & I will miss you forever... With deep heartfelt sympathy...RIP Michael...

Still overwhelmed about hearing of Michael's untimely passing. My hairdresser for 25+ years. So enjoyed his conversation and the stories we shared. I'm sorry to have missed the celebration of his life but will think of him often and smile. RIP Michael.

I just got back to Spokane today and sadly read of Michael's passing. We first met in 1990. He was walking across the field at the end of our first Skyhawk Soccer practice. We all wondered who this big man was and RV (Ryan) proudly announced, "That's my dad." The team and parents so enjoyed his friendliness, positive attitude and that huge smile. He so loved his sons.
I enjoyed seeing Michael through the years especially when he built a "house" near us at Nine Mile Falls.
RIP friend, Rick Lungo

No one but Michael has cut my hair in the past 30 years. He will be irreplaceable. Thanks Michael for the laughs, stories, encouragement and just for being you. You were one of my biggest cheerleaders when I had my business and I'll never forget the night I let you be the 'guest bartender'!!! I don't think I made any money that night but the fun was worth it.
The love and care you showed to your Mom in her last years speaks volumes re your character. Know that you will be missed and never forgotten by many. RIP Michael!

I wanted to get my hair cut in a special way so I started asking around at my job for a good stylist.
I asked several people to tell me who was
the best in Spokane and they told me Michael Vane. At that time he was in a
big beautiful building by the WSU retail shop. They were right - he was the best. He told me a story about a
friend that had a drinking problem and Michael talked him into going to a treatment center. Michael changed his friend's life forever. I went to Michael till he said he was moving. He said his new place was Incognito. I
went on to other places but when I decided that I wanted a real good haircut I called Incognito and found one but Michael wasn't there. I just
remember what a really nice person he was and once I seen him with one of his sons at the Bing theater.
I am so sorry for your lost of such a
delightful friend, brother, dad, and husband.

I wrote this almost a year ago, in response to a Slice question in the Spokesman-Review: "As of Wednesday May 21st, Michael Vane has been my hairdresser for 31 years. It started with styling my hair for my wedding. I can definitely say that after all these years we have been through many of life's ups and downs. He's not just a hair stylist -- and the best -- he's a friend."
Michael will always have a special place in my heart, as I know he will for all who knew him. God bless him and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Michael was my hairdresser for 18 years. He was a large man possessed with tremendous skill, a huge heart, and an enormous wit. I always looked forward to sitting in his big red chair for a couple of hours a month, laughing at his jokes, enjoying his stories, and discussing any and every subject: parenting teenagers and young adults, caring for aging parents, religion, politics, boating, gardening, his treasured children and grandchildren, and on and on. I was one of hundreds and hundreds of Michael's clients, but he was my one hairdresser. Michael's passing leaves a huge void and I already miss him terribly.

I am honored to say that I was his last client in his barber chair on May 5th. Not only was Michael my hairdresser for over 25+ years, but a great friend. I was also fortunate enough to share a few beers that evening and embrace a hug, not knowing it would be my last. Michael, I will miss you dearly. Love, Mitch Sodorff

Michael was my hair dresser for well over thirty years, as I followed him through 5 locations and several business arrangements. Not only was he technically the best in his profession, he was the most pleasant person in the world to spend an hour with. We talked about everything except hair - we shared updates on topics from career paths and plans, the aging and loss of parents, the joys and trials of raising children, construction and landscaping, his musical events, holiday celebrations and observances, relationships(the end of some), travels, piccadillos, and most recently the pitfalls of aging, and sheer enjoyment and love of grandchildren.
Aaron, Ryan, Michael's other family and dear friends-
Please know that Michael is missed by so many outside your immediate circle, that our hearts go out to you, that Michael loved each of you dearly, and that his life, though far too short was happy and fulfilling for him.

My friend since we were 4, He could always make me laugh. The day he died I had to take a trip through the neighborhood, just to remind myself of a simpler time with Michael. Our quarterly meetings were always the best, full of laughs and stories. Our lives have been intertwined in so many ways. After hearing of his passing, my phone rang and Mike's name popped up. I thought for a moment that someone had made a mistake, and that he was on the other end of that call. However, it was his Annie, making sure I had heard the news. I will miss you, my friend. Peace. To be continued when we meet again!

Michael was never just my hairdresser. He was a friend, humorist, and confidante. I've never had a visit that didn't have a lot of laughter mixed in with a great haircut. There is so much I will miss about Michael. Thank you for so many years of great stories, laughter, and hugs.

I can't believe that my phone will never ring again with your name on my caller ID. Just seeing your name made me smile. Knowing I had a voice mail from you regularly that was always ridiculous and adolescent was the simplest and purest joy in my world. We met at 15, some 44 years ago so I can hardly remember a day without you in my world. I have never so profoundly appreciated the word "friend" until this week when you, my friend, suddenly are no longer part of my world. I cherished our time together, there is a void now never to be filled and I am grateful that you are so deeply woven into the fabric of my life. I will miss you beyond words my Brutha From Anutha Mutha..... I bid you How You Do one more time from You Two Guys only you would know what that means and I know it would make you laugh. I love you.

I was in a couple of shows with Michael in his Community Theatre days. The first show I was ever in was "Peter Pan" back in 1995 and he played one of Captain Hook's burley, dancing pirates. He was hilarious! I played The Crocodile in that show and chased Hook and his pirates off stage in a couple of scenes. I didn't have a lot of stage time, so I was often sitting and watching during rehearsals. He would come over to me and say "Oh, another 'Crock Observation Night' for you?" Great guy. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, my friend!

43 years of the best friendship anybody could ever ask for. We've had our ups and downs, we've laughed, we cried, we've shared experiences and dared adventures.
This huge void Will never be filled... Peace to you Michael finally after you've struggled so hard to find it.

I was lucky to call Mike my friend and co-worker for 35 years. He was a guy who always marched to his own drum. I will miss friends of the friendless gatherings, hairy man campouts, trips to Mexico and Vegas and looking over at that big red barber chair knowing he won't be there to crack jokes with. RIP brother.
