Jan 11, 1945 - Jan 17, 2026
Raymond Arthur Mooney Jr., 81 years old, of Deer Park, WA, passed away on January 17, 2026, after a nine-year journey with dementia. His gentle and kind spirit remained steadfast throughout his illness.
Born on January 11, 1945, in Boca Raton, FL, Ray was the son of Captain Raymond and Laura Mae Mooney. At the age of seven, following the loss of his father in a military plane failure, Ray moved with his mother, younger brother, and sister to live with extended family at Garland Mineral Springs near Index, WA.
He graduated from Sultan High School in 1963 and earned his degree from Washington State University in 1968. While at WSU, he met Patricia Sloan, who would become his wife of 58 years. Together they raised two children and were later blessed with five grandchildren. In retirement, Raymond and Patricia opened their hearts and home to foster babies for ten years.
Ray built a career in banking, holding various banking roles in Asotin, Pomeroy, Deer Park, and Spokane. He found particular fulfillment as a Community Reinvestment Analyst (CRA), supporting small businesses and nonprofits.
A skilled woodworker and builder, Ray designed and constructed a tram to transport materials up a cliffside at Loon Lake where he built a beautiful lake house. He also helped design and build Christ's Church of Deer Park.
A devoted follower of Jesus and founding member of Christ's Church, Ray served as an elder, mentor, and treasurer. He was known for his gentle leadership, guiding wisdom and his servant's heart. He never hesitated to share the love of Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John. He is survived by his wife Patricia; sister Barbara Gunderman; children Michelle Robblee (Andy) and Matthew Mooney (Darcy); grandchildren Jessica, Jacob, Madison, Alexandra, Jaxson; bonus grandchild Veronica Herski; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Christ's Church of Deer Park, 5804 W. Herman Road, Deer Park, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ's Church of Deer Park, PO Box 339, Deer Park, WA.
