Raymond "Ray" ROWSE

1930–2024

Spokane, WA – Raymond "Ray" Rowse, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at the age of 94, with his devoted wife, Diane by his side. He leaves behind Diane, his loving wife of 52 years; his children, Robyn, Kimberly (Peter), Scott (Laurie), and Levi; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ray is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Spokane, Ray was born in 1930 at his family's home on the South Hill to Martha and Frank Rowse. He was the youngest of six children. Predeceased by his siblings: Frank, Lucile, Geraldine, Lawrence, and John. Ray grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and a strong sense of community. He attended Jefferson Elementary, Sacajawea Middle School, Lewis and Clark High School, and later Eastern Washington University.

Ray served his country proudly in the Air National Guard, stationed in England during the Korean War. Upon his return, he built a successful career as the founder of a roofing business specializing in cedar hand-split shakes, leaving his mark on countless homes throughout the Spokane area.

Beyond his work, Ray was a man of many passions. He loved his farm, gardening, and caring for his animals, especially his loyal dogs and, in later years, his cherished cat, Red. A talented artist, Ray spent countless hours refining his painting craft, often inspired by the beauty around him and the painting shows he loved to watch.

Known for his sharp wit, warm humor, and iconic handlebar mustache which he sported for over 50 years, Ray was a fixture in his community. He seemed to know everyone, and to him, there was no such thing as a stranger-only a friend he hadn't met yet.

At Ray's request, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, his family will gather in the summer of 2025 for a celebration of his remarkable life which was filled with love, kindness, and unforgettable memories.

Ray touched the lives of all who knew him and will be deeply missed. He is gone from this earth but will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
