Charles Valley Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

VALLEY, Charles Thomas Matthew Husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2006 at Maui Memorial Medical Center on the island of Maui, Hawaii. He was a familiar and long time resident of Kamaola, Kula. Thomas was born February 20, 1934, in Brookville, Ohio to Rosalie (Cooney) and Alfred Valley. He was a member of Saint Joseph's Church in Springfield, Ohio were he attended school. Educated at Catholic Central, he graduated from Springfield High School in 1952. He married Mary Ann (Kiser) October 27, 1953. Thomas began work on the New York Central Railroad with his father at an early age, and later was employed by Thompson Grinder in Springfield, Ohio as a service engineer. Employment with Waterbury Farrell based in Connecticut lead him to travel extensively with his wife throughout Europe and Asia, particularly Ireland, for many years. After retirement, his lifelong love of billiards prompted him to purchase Guy and Dolls (formerly East High Billards) in Springfield, Ohio where the world's first Bank Pool Tournament was held. Remembered by those who loved him as TV, he himself set the (unofficially) world nine ball record in Syracuse, New York. He and his wife moved to Hawaii in 1986. Generous, kind hearted, with keen sense of humor, great story teller; he was an all around super guy! Survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Myo); his eight children, Melissa Valley, Laura (Tim) Hearlihy, Tommy Valley, Mary (Elzon) de Souza, Libby (Frank Jones) Valley, Nina Valley, Jason (Ivy Puma) Valley and Nathaniel (Pamela) Valley; sisters-in-law, Jan Zanish and Nina Burgert; 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild; four wonderful sisters, Jackie Grim, Mary Alice Quinn, Louise Tegenkamp and Diane Nicholas. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald, Gregory and Nicholas and his lifelong friend Jim Hays of the (Springfield News Sun). Private services where held October 6, 2006 by the family in Kaupo, Maui. Ballard Family Mortuary assisted with the arrangements. A special mahalo to Dr. Mastrioni and Dr. Barbarosh and the staff of Maui Memorial Medical Center for their kokua. Aloha Sweetheart.

Mary,
Laura, Tommy, Libby and all of the Valley family,
I was sorry to hear of TV's passing, so I can only imagine how you all
must miss him. His enthusiasm for life and its many possibilities was
contagious, particularly when witnessed by a young boy in a small town
in the early '70s. Although I have not seen him in 25 years or more, in
my mind, I can still smell hot pastrami and talc in the air of a
muffled and dimly lit room — then I hear the explosive crack of a tight
9-ball rack, and TV, bellowing, "Yago!" as the first ball drops.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

TV was my mothers cousin (ANNE MERTENS) and I remember going to their house as a young kid. It was always lively and fun! I remember a time when Jason and Nathanial took the kitchen ceiling down! My love to you all.
