84, of Springfield, passed away September 25, 2022, in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Frank and Frances (Cummins) Girbert. Rev. Girbert attended Northminster Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Throughout his life he was the Senior Pastor at many churches in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. His last church assignment was the First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn where he served as the Associate Pastor and Youth Minister before retiring and beginning a new career at McKinley Hall in Springfield as a therapist. He also served as a supply pastor and interim pastor at that time. Rev Girbert was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where he was a star athlete on their football team with Coach John Pont as his coach. Coach Pont made a significant impact on David's life. He was recruited by the Buffalo Bills but decided on a different career. He graduated from McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1963 and received his master's degree in counseling from Wright State University in 1982. Survivors include his loving wife of 19 years; Carrissa "Carey" Jane (FitzSimons) Girbert, five children; Jeanne W. Girbert, Matthew A. Girbert, Abralyn A. Lawson (Jason), Sean E. Girbert (Kellie) and Allanna, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister-in-law; Kay Girbert and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son; Aaron D. Girbert, a brother; Paul Girbert and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM Monday in the Northminister Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dwight McCormick officiating.
