James William "Bill" Savely, 91 of
Sebring, FL and formerly of
Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully with family members on February 4, 2026. He is survived by his children; Sandra Nickell (The Rev. Shane) of St. Cloud, FL; Suzanne Hancock (Dacre) of Wakefield, MA; James Savely IV (Kristen) of Chatham, MA; Stephanie Lind of Westmont, IL and Scott Naylor (Heidi) of Milford, OH; and step-children, John Lohmann (Laura) of Fitchburg, MA; The Rev. Virginia Lohmann Bauman (Gery) of Westerville, OH; Judith LaVardera (James) of Ellicott City, MD; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Savely retired as a University Registrar from the College of William & Mary and had similar positions at Miami University (Ohio), Florida International University, and the University of Cincinnati. He was an Instructor in Management and for many years taught business courses at Miami University's Oxford and Hamilton campuses. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Cincinnati and did post graduate degree work at Miami University. Dissertation: "Lifelong Education Through Variations in Experiential Learning Environments".
He was extremely active in community affairs in Northern Kentucky, Maryland and Ohio having been a 70+-year member of Gateway (KY) Lodge 109, F&AM, and the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity. He served on Lakeside Park (KY) City Council, Beechwood Board of Education, Cincinnati YMCA Board of Management, Chairman of Oxford (OH) Board of Zoning Appeals, President of Oxford Kiwanis Club, Frederick (MD) Hospital Auxiliary Board Treasurer and volunteer, Board member and Regional Chairman of the Maryland Association of Hospital Auxiliaries, Frederick Literacy Council Board and tutor, various church councils, Chapter President and District Representative of the Ohio Public Employee Retirees, Inc., and a member of "Ye Ole Buzzards Club" of Westerville. He served as an Episcopal Parish Eucharistic Visitor, Pastoral Care Volunteer at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville and at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware and served on the Grady Volunteer Advisory Board. He was a graduate of the Delaware Citizens' Academy and the Delaware Citizens' Police Academy and Westerville Citizens' Fire Academy. He maintained a lifetime interest in physical fitness and conducted exercise classes at Willow Brook Christian Village, Ohio, where he also served as President of the Residents' Advisory Council.
Mr. Savely was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Parish,
Delaware, Ohio and St. Agnes Parish,
Sebring, Florida.
Internment will occur at a later date at Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum, Springfield, Ohio.
