Robert LEHMAN Obituary


News Death Notice

LEHMAN, Dr. Robert H. Superintendent, Springfield Community Schools, 1969 - 1980, passed away in Kissimmee, Florida, July 20. He was 88. Born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on July 31, 1924, he was the son of Hayes David and Ethel Cook Lehman. A graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Ohio, he received a BA and MS degrees from The Ohio State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University. He served his country as a B-17 pilot during World War II. Married to Teresa Keller in 1946, they moved to Springfield, Ohio, in 1950, where he spent 30 years in the Springfield school system. He began as a teacher at Springfield High School and became director of the Adult Evening School. In 1960, he was named the first principal of Springfield North High School. Later he became Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and served as Superintendent of Schools from 1969-1980. During his years in Springfield, Dr. Lehman was a member of the Springfield Rotary Club, serving as president. He was a member of the Central Methodist Church, the Van Dyke Club and Mitchell Hills Country Club. He served on the board of directors of AAA and also taught classes at Wright State University. In 1986, he and wife Teresa moved to Keowee Key, South Carolina. They moved to Solivita, Florida, in 2003, to be close to family, moving to Good Samaritan Village, Kissimmee, Florida, in 2012, where they lived when he died. Dr. Lehman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kissimmee, Florida, and a sixty year member of the Westgate Masonic Lodge, Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Teresa and sons David, and wife Debby, Lehman; Fritz Lehman; Phil, and wife Debbie Lehman, all of Orlando, Florida; and Dean, and wife Linda, Lehman, Louisville, Colorado. Grandchildren are Sarah Twedt and husband James; Matt Lehman; Katie Kalb and husband Nate; Alex Lehman and wife Tori; Kyle Lehman; Nick Lehman; Kelsey Lehman; Fritz Lehman; Christine Lehman; and step grandchildren John and Dean Dragstedt. Great-grandchildren are Avery and Caroline Twedt; Hayes and Austin Kalb; and Summer Lehman. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Kissimmee, Florida, Wednesday, July 24, 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Kissimmee, and Give Kids the World, where Dr. Lehman was a volunteer www.givekidstheworld.org

Dear Theresa and family, Duane and I, as well as the rest of the Whonsetler family, were so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. We have such fond memories of our shared time at Hamilton Lake, and laugh even today about some of those memories.
