Albert Cheng Obituary

Albert Cheng
Albert Hon Cheng, 62, of Stamford, CT, passed away while surrounded by his family on January 14, 2021. He was born on October 21, 1958 in New York City, NY and was predeceased by his father Chuen "CC" Cheng, mother Yen "Lucy" Cheng, sister Julia Cheng, and brother William Cheng. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Anne, dedicated children Kathryn Jimenez (Christopher), Jennifer Cheng, and Stephen Cheng, granddaughter Sophia Jimenez, sisters Nancy Cronce (Darryl) and Lisa Matacotta (Steven), and many nieces and nephews.
Al grew up in Hillsborough, NJ and graduated from Rutgers University - Cook College in 1982 with a BS in Animal Science and Physiology and earned his MBA from the University of Connecticut in 1998. While Al started his career in bioscience, he quickly shifted to Wall Street and held various positions focused in finance and risk management at Bloomberg LP, Brown Brothers Harriman, GE Capital - FGIC, Atlantic Asset Management, and Janus Henderson. Al was also a founding member of Geofin LLC and an adjunct professor for the University of Connecticut's MBA program.
Al's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle – but his most cherished title was grandfather. Al and his family were committed to adopting rescue dogs over the last 30 years, each of which held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed baseball, golf, skiing, tennis, music, traveling, a good prime rib, and a beer with anyone who was willing to sit and chat. He was a jack of all trades who was always willing to try anything. He was a guitarist, an airplane and classical music enthusiast, loved American and military history, and was a proud Freemason. Al played and managed baseball for the Connecticut Men's Senior Baseball League for nearly 30 years where he made many life-long friends.
Al was a highly accomplished man and world traveler, yet you would never know it due to his humble personality. He was a man of great integrity and a strong believer in hard work. He was generous, loving, and kind and had an infectious laugh that could brighten a room. He will be greatly missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his memory to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County or Save the Children. A celebration of life is being planned for the spring.

Dear Anne & family: I am so sorry for your loss. Not sure what to say, but I will miss Al tremendously. He was quite simply an awesome guy, teammate and friend. Not only did he have an infectious laugh, but he could always make me laugh. Baseball will not be the same without him, but I will hold on to the great memories we shared together over 25+ years. RIP Al. My condolences to the entire family.

To Mr. Cheng's Entire Family:
I do not know Mr. Cheng or any of his family members and friends.
I read his obituary and what an outstanding man. But the picture of him smiling deeply touched my heart.
How I wished that during his short time here with us I could have been privileged to be in his life's circle.
My heartfelt condolences to his entire family and friends. Prayers to all.
