Robert Henry Podolak, 74, passed away Nov. 12 in Hazle Twp.
Born Sunday, Nov. 2, 1947, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John Podolak and Jean (Reich) Podolak-Stein. He was married 39 years to Judith (Borowitz) Podolak, who passed away in January 2011.
Robert was a 1965 graduate of Carnegie High School. He attended Wilmington College and Point Park University before being enlisted into the 101st U.S. Army Airborne to serve in Vietnam. He graduated from the Allegheny County Police Academy in 1974. As a police officer, he served in several departments in Pennsylvania, including Butler Twp., Palmyra Borough and North Londonderry Twp.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Police. He was a past president of Fraternal Order of Police Butler County Lodge 107 and served as the financial secretary of Lebanon County Lodge 42. He was also active in the Butler Twp., Palmyra and North Londonderry Twp. police officers associations. He also served in various capacities in the National Police Chiefs Association and Lebanon County Police Association.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Danell R. Wampler and husband, Daryl, Womelsdorf; and Shenendoah R. Podolak and wife, D'Michael Horn-Podolak, Enola; three grandchildren, Amber, Allyson and Amy Wampler; and a sister, Naomi McPeek and husband, Jan, Leetonia, Ohio.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Stafford; and a brother, the Rev. Dr. John Joseph Podolak.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. Visitation with family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment with military honors will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Lebanon County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 42, P.O. Box 778, Lebanon, PA 17042.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Palmyra.
