Helen Place

Helen C. Age 85 of Elmira, NY, passed away Friday, February 21, 2003, peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born August 14, 1917 in Towanda, PA the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (O'Hern) Calkins. Helen is survived by her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jeri Place of Elmira, NY, Alan and Donna Place of Bradenton, FL; grandsons, Robert (Debra) Place of Newburgh, ME, Scott (Stacey) Place of Elmira, NY; great grandson, Deven Place also of Elmira, NY; step granddaughter, Kelli (Eric) Wenzel of NC; sister, Mary Kozdemba of Elmira, NY; along with many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her best friend and loving husband of 61 years, P. Dean Place, on March 13, 2002. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Jack and Junie Calkins; sisters, Rita and Patricia. Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY at 10:00 AM. The Reverend Howard L. Hunt, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Monroeton Cemetery, Monroeton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830.
