Floyd Garrett Obituary

Floyd Bruce Garrett of Easton, MD and formerly of Edgewater, MD, passed away on August 11, 2024. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his wit and grace with words, his wonderful storytelling, his curiosity, and his love for his family. Bruce will also be remembered for his terrible puns and his tiny bit of sarcasm.

Bruce married Leslie (Lehrkinder) in 1984 and recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and 81st birthday. He is survived by Leslie and three sons, Bruce (Sally Anne), John (Kirsty), and Michael (Mandy). What Bruce was most joyful about was his reconnection with his Australian sons and building a relationship with them, their wives, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bruce's definition of family was all-inclusive. He thought of Guy Reeser IV (Dana) and Stewart Reeser (Cadman) as his American sons. He thought of Dana Reiss (Guy IV), Kristen Hilderbrand (Pat) and Stacy Husk (Aaron) as his American daughters.

Bruce was a veteran and retired from the American Automobile Association when his brother came to live with him. He remained a steadfast user of maps and TripTiks and sneered at using a GPS. In a previous life he taught German and Russian and gained fluency in French and Spanish. He only read trash novels in foreign languages. "It helps me learn." He loved to travel, play chess and discuss anything. He would have loved to have his obituary in Le Monde.

We all knew that when Bruce told us that he "flourished like the green bay tree" to wonder what he was really feeling and when he told us "I live to serve" that he felt no such thing. He will be sorely missed by many.
