Robert Price Obituary

CENTREVILLE - Robert R. Price Jr., of Centreville, MD, departed this life on June 13, 2017, peacefully at his home on Pioneer Point, where he had lived for 64 years. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Price, the son of the late Robert R. Price and Sara McCready Price, was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Easton, MD. He was raised in Centreville and after his high school graduation, during World War II, he entered the Army and served with the Fourth Infantry Division. Following his military service, he attended the University of Maryland and graduated from the School of Law. Admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1952, he commenced the practice of law in Centreville, where he was later joined by his son in the firm Price and Price until his retirement in 2014. He served as President of the Queen Anne's County Bar Association, the Second Judicial Circuit Bar Association and on the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association.
In addition to his private practice, Mr. Price served for many years as attorney for the County Commissioners of Queen Anne's County, the Queen Anne's County Planning Commission and the towns of Centreville and Queenstown. By appointment of Governor Tawes, he served on the Maryland Planning and Law Study Commission and by appointment of Governor Hughes served as a member and vice-chairman of the original Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission.
Mr. Price was active in many community affairs and organizations, serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gunston School and the County Red Cross Chapter. He was a member of the Maryland Club, Gibson Island Yacht Club, Maryland Agriculture Society, and the Tred Avon and Corsica River Yacht Clubs. Mr. Price was a member of the Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Centreville, MD.
To friends and family, Bob was a sage advisor of law and life. He was a dear friend, husband, grandfather, a true Eastern Shore gentleman, and a generous, gracious man. He will be missed by many but his mark on the community and those close to him will certainly not fade away.
Mr. Price is survived by his wife, the artist Nancy Hammond; his grandsons: R. Reeves Price IV of New Orleans, Louisiana; Andrew Warfield Price of Paris, France; and his step-son, Richard A. Hammond of Centreville.
Mr. Price's first wife, Nancy Rittenhouse Burke; and his son, Robert R. Price III, pre-deceased him.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Centreville, MD. Burial will follow at Chesterfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Corsica River Foundation, P.O. Box 344, Centreville, MD 21617.
